Montisi Apartments sits in the Genesee section of West Seattle, a residential pocket just east of the West Seattle Junction commercial strip. The area has a laid-back, neighborhood feel with tree-lined streets, modest single-family homes, and a mix of newer infill buildings. It sits roughly 3.5 miles southwest of downtown Seattle, giving it a quieter tone while keeping the city within reach.
The West Seattle Junction, centered on California Avenue SW and SW Alaska Street, is about a 10-minute walk away. Easy Street Records and Cafe at 4559 California Ave SW is a longtime neighborhood anchor combining a full-service diner with a working record store and live music events. Talarico's Pizzeria, Matador, Elliott Bay Brewing, and Bakery Nouveau are all within that same walkable stretch.
A Trader Joe's at 4545 Fauntleroy Way SW and a Whole Foods Market at 4755 Fauntleroy Way SW are both about a 10-minute walk southeast. A Safeway at 4754 42nd Ave SW and a QFC at 4550 42nd Ave SW add further options within roughly the same distance, making grocery runs straightforward without a car.
Bus stops on SW Avalon Way and SW Bradford St are within about a 5-minute walk, serving routes connecting to downtown Seattle. The RapidRide C Line runs along Fauntleroy Way SW toward downtown, and the West Seattle Bridge provides a direct car or bus corridor into the city core, typically 10 to 15 minutes by car outside of peak congestion.
Sound Transit's West Seattle Link Extension is now in the formal design phase following a federal Record of Decision issued in April 2025. The project will add light rail stations at Delridge and Alaska Junction, with the Alaska Junction station planned roughly a mile from Montisi Apartments. The current cost-saving design in 2026 removes the Avalon Station but preserves the Junction station, though an opening date has not been confirmed.
West Seattle holds an unusually large share of Seattle's urban green space. Schmitz Preserve Park, with 1.7 miles of old-growth forest trails, is about a 15-minute walk west. Lincoln Park, a 135-acre bluff park on Puget Sound with 4.6 miles of walking paths, a saltwater pool, and views of the Olympic Mountains, is roughly a 15-minute drive or a longer bike ride south near the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal.
Alki Beach, one of Seattle's most popular stretches of shoreline, is about a 15-minute bike ride or 20-minute walk north and west of the property. The 2.6-mile beachfront promenade along Alki Avenue SW offers views of the downtown skyline across Elliott Bay, with waterfront restaurants, fire rings, and a Statue of Liberty replica along the route.
The Genesee and West Seattle Junction area is a generally quiet, residential part of the city with a strong neighborhood identity. As with any urban area, staying aware of your surroundings at night is sensible. Renters should consult the Seattle Police Department's public crime data or the city's official resources for current and specific safety information.
